Largest Refugee Crises Around the World.

When home is not safe. you run! When your country is not safe, you run! But what happens when the world is no longer safe? What happens when the country you fleeing to does not want to accept you? What happens when you are sent back?
Refugee crises around the world is at an alarming rate and in this article, i will be listing the top refugee crises as listed by Mercy Corps. The hope for a better life has been programmed into the human DNA since the time of creation. There is a natural instinct to be safe, a natural instinct to enjoy life while we can.
The issue of terrorism. ethnic cleansing and civil war have forced people into migration. Some European countries are accepting migrants everyday. but i can assure you that as a result of the increasing numbers of immigrants, these European countries will stop allowing migrants access into their countries. You can't blame them if they deny migrants access because they also have the responsibility to take care of their own citizens.
Let me digress a little to "Trump and Immigrant Children"
2,000 immigrant children were separated from their parents following a "Zero Tolerance Policy" in which all cases of illegal entry into the U.S are to be referred for criminal prosecution. The children are being held in cages. People who work at the center are not allowed to touch the children who are understandably distraught. All these happens after the children parent are told that the officials are taking their kids for bath, When the parents begin asking when their kids are coming back they are told "you won't be seeing your child again" (Source:Jennifer Wright)
According to Mercy Corps. we are witnessing a massive shift of humanity unlike any seen before. Today more than 65 million people around the world are displaced from their homes.
So the question is, what does it feel like to be displaced?
It would be like half the population of Spain going homeless or everyone in Cameroon fleeing and leaving an empty country behind them. It would be like the state of Florida slowly draining itself of Doctors, teachers, engineers and entrepreneur and everyone who lived there, plus three million more until there is only barren land left behind (Source: Mercy Corps).
List of 5 Largest Refugee Crises
- Syria: 5.6 Million Refugees
- Afghanistan: 2.5 Million Refugees
- South Sudan: 2.1 Million Refugees
- Venezuela: 1.5 Million Refugees
- Myanmar: 905,000 thousand Refugee
This sums up to 12,605,000. That's about half the population of Madagascar. 12 million is a huge number, remember this number is only for the top 5 Refugee crisis.
Terrorism needs to reduce, ethic cleansing and civil war needs to stop. This is very difficult to achieve but its the obvious way out.
